On July 7, Ilan Berman, vice president for policy at the American Foreign Policy Council in Washington, D.C., briefed a private audience of JINSA members on the troubling situation inside Iran. Berman is an expert on regional security in the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Russian Federation. He has consulted for both the Central Intelligence Agency and the Pentagon, and provided assistance on foreign policy and national security issues to a range of governmental agencies and congressional offices.
JINSA members participated Tuesday July 21, 2009 in a conference call with Ambassador Roberto Flores of Honduras. Considered the "former ambassador" by the State Department (the United States does not recognize the current Honduran government), Amb. Flores discussed the antecedents to the June ouster of then-President Zelaya, including Zelaya's determination to hold a referendum declared illegal by the Honduran Supreme Court.
