The best way to give the Palestinians a better future would be to liberate 1.2 million of them from Hamas in Gaza. Hamas, which ousted Fatah from Gaza in a bloody and ongoing civil war, appears to be the reason the U.S. Government is building Fatah an army. Clearly, the State Department is busy executing its two-state vision while the Palestinians are busy executing one another.

Contrary to popular belief within the Obama Administration, President Bush's April 2004 letter, approved by Congressional resolutions, is, in fact, U.S. policy. In that letter, future Israeli borders are not defined and it is noted that, "it is unrealistic to expect that the outcome of final status negotiations will be a full and complete return to the armistice lines of 1949."

If Israel (or America, for that matter) allows itself to be undone by the PR ramifications of defense, or if PR becomes the ultimate determinant of rightness or wrongness in security matters, defense will become impossible.
