The Military Academies Program in Israel brings groups of cadets and midshipmen to Israel for a three-week work and study program which imparts the reality of Israel, its past and recent history, its security requirements and the capabilities it brings to meeting its defense needs and supporting Western interests in a crucial part of the world.
In Israel, emphasis is placed on having the participants meet and engage in discussion with young Israeli officers, highlighting the role of the military in democratic countries, similarities and differences in officer schooling, and building bridges for future contact between their respective military establishments.
Each year, JINSA creates an itinerary to meet the educational, religious, social, historical and security requirements of the participants. They travel the length and breadth of the country – from the Golan Heights to Beer Sheva and Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. They see the reality of Israel – beautiful, friendly, democratic and pro-American, high-tech and ancient, with deserts, beaches and mountains and wonderful people.
Additionally, participants receive a college-level education in the problems of the Middle East region, an area that will be of continuing concern to American military planners for the foreseeable future.
Participants meet with military officers, government officials, journalists, professors and just plain people. They talk about their experiences in the U.S. military and share good-natured competition with the young officers of the IDF.
