As we open the new year, we want to take this opportunity to let you know just some of the items JINSA has on tap for 1997, and to thank you for your support of our endeavor.

1. Turkey: JINSA has a relationship with the General Staff of the Turkish military based upon Turkey’s importance as a strategic ally to the United States and to Israel. In cooperation with the Turkish General Staff, JINSA will take a group of retired American military officers to Turkey at the end of the month, to discuss regional security concerns.

1. Turkey: JINSA has a relationship with the General Staff of the Turkish military based upon Turkey’s importance as a strategic ally to the United States and to Israel. In cooperation with the Turkish General Staff, JINSA will take a group of retired American military officers to Turkey at the end of the month, to discuss regional security concerns.

2. Ft. Rucker: The U.S. Army Aviation Center at Fort Rucker, Alabama will host a JINSA delegation 5-6 February. The group will practice on simulators of the Army’s Apache helicopter, see the “hot cockpit” of the new TH67 helicopter and learn more about Army aviation. Pilots of the Israel Air Force train at Ft. Rucker on the same equipment we will use.

3. David Kay: One of America’s pre-eminent experts in the problem of weapons proliferation and ballistic missile technology, Dr. Kay will address a JINSA meeting in New York hosted by Board Member Paul Singer on 30 January.

4. Gottesman Lecture: The third JINSA Gottesman Lecture at the U.S. Air Force Academy will take place under the auspices of the Superintendent of the Academy on 25 February. This lecture is delivered to the entire Junior and Senior classes (approximately 2,000 cadets).

5. Houston Dinner: On 5 March, JINSA will hold its annual Houston Dinner honoring Randall Onstead, CEO of Randall Supermarkets. The dinner attracts nearly 500 of the leading members of Houston’s business and Jewish communities.

6. Flag and General Officer’s Trip to Israel: JINSA’s 16th annual orientation program in Israel will take place 15-26 March. This program allows recently retired American Admirals and Generals to meet with the military and civilian leadership of Israel to exchange views and promote closer security cooperation.

7. Congressional Staff Members Trip to Israel: For the first time, JINSA will cosponsor a trip to Israel for Congressional staff from defense and security-related Committees. The trip will depart on 22 March, and will focus on Israeli security requirements and avenues for increased U.S.-Israel security cooperation.

8. Military Academies Program in Israel: JINSA’s 9th annual work/study program for the cadets of all three U.S. service Academies will take place in June. This program provides an opportunity for the future leadership of the U.S. military to have an intense, personal and positive experience in Israel.

As you can see, we have undertaken a variety of activities – and continue to produce publications, including our upcoming Political Islam and Policy Implications – in an effort to meet our educational obligations, and to enhance U.S.-Israel relations. And again, we thank you for your support.
