Grateful Nation Award

History of JINSA's Grateful Nation Award

The Grateful Nation Award, established in 2003, is presented annually to six young heroes recognized for having distinguished themselves through superior conduct in the War on Terrorism. Honorees are chosen by their respective service and come from the enlisted, noncommissioned officer and junior officer ranks. Honorees represent each of the five branches of the U.S. military and the U.S. Special Operations Command.

And the 2008 Grateful Nation Award Recipients Are...

JINSA's 2008 Grateful Nation Award honorees have been selected by their respective services and will honored by JINSA on December 8, 2008 the same evening that Admiral Michael Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is to receive JINSA's 26th Annual Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson Distinguished Service Award.

2007 - JINSA Bestows Distinguished Service Award Upon Defense Secretary Gates

JINSA's 25th annual Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson Distinguished Service Award was conferred upon Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates on October 15, 2007. Also that evening the Chairman of JINSA’s Board of Advisors, Mr. David Steinmann, introduced six young U.S. service members, the 2007 recipients of JINSA's Grateful Nation Award. They were honored for their exceptional service in the War on Terror.

2006 - JINSA Bestows Distinguished Service Award Upon Senator John McCain

JINSA’s 24th annual Henry M. “Scoop” Jackson Distinguished Service Award was conferred upon Senator John McCain on December 5, 2006. Also that evening JINSA Board of Advisors member Adm. Leon Edney, USN (ret.) introduced six young U.S. service members, the 2006 recipients of JINSA’s Grateful Nation Award. They were honored for their exceptional service in the War on Terror.

JINSA Bestows Distinguished Service Award Upon Joint Chiefs Chairman General Peter Pace, USMC

JINSA’s 23rd annual Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson Distinguished Service Award was conferred upon General Peter Pace, USMC, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on December 12, 2005. Dr. Stephen Bryen, President of Finmeccanica Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based aerospace firm and the evening’s major corporate sponsor, presented the award.
