Policy Analyst

Description

JINSA is seeking a Policy Analyst for the organization’s Gemunder Center for Defense and Strategy. Since its founding in 1976, JINSA’s mandate has been to provide leadership on critical national security issues, promote U.S. security cooperation with like-minded democracies, engage the U.S. defense community on Israel’s role in regional security and improve awareness of the importance of a strong U.S. defense capability. To further this mission, in 2012 it founded the Gemunder Center to perform innovative policy research and advocacy on a range of vital U.S. defense, strategic, and general national security issues.

The Gemunder Center conduct sits research and advocacy under the auspices of interdisciplinary task forces composed of retired senior military officers, former senior government officials, national security experts, and business leaders. Major projects include:

  • Iran Task Force, which examines the diplomatic, economic, and military options available to the United States and its allies to prevent a nuclear-capable Iran. In less than two years the Task Force has released eight major reports and held multiple public events discussing various aspects of U.S. strategy against Iran.
  • EMP Task Force, which raises awareness and develops actionable recommendations to enhance U.S. critical infrastructure and societal resiliency against electromagnetic pulse (EMP) threats.
  • Gaza Assessment Task Force, which closely studies the evolution of Hamas’s strategy and Israel’s response in the 2014 Gaza War, and provides recommendations for U.S. political and military leaders to combat similar adversaries in the future.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Policy Analyst will report to the Gemunder Center’s Associate Director, and will be directly involved in all aspects of the Center’s work. Primary duties will consist of independent and collaborative research and writing to produce regular reports and other products for each Task Force, as well as contributing regularly to other written materials as needed. Additional duties will include proofreading and editing, preparing regular meetings for each Task Force, and assisting with all outreach and fundraising activities, including public events and grant writing.

This position will require the ability to learn quickly on the job in order to handle simultaneously a wide range of tasks spanning different topics. The Policy Analyst will be expected to possess very strong writing abilities in order to contribute substantively to all Gemunder Center policy output. The position also requires well-developed interpersonal skills, both to function in a tight-knit office environment and to interact and engage directly with top policymakers and other leaders in the national security field.

Qualifications

  • Strong research, analytical and writing skills;
  • Background in U.S. national security and defense issues, with knowledge of Middle Eastern issues and Middle Eastern language expertise a plus;
  • Ability to multi-task on numerous projects;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including strong interpersonal and presentation skills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, particularly in writing;
  • At least 3 years of work experience and/or a graduate degree strongly preferred;
  • Must have completed a four-year undergraduate degree in a related field.

Vice President of Operations

The Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA) is seeking an experienced individual with 10-15 years work or military experience to manage its operations.

Duties

  • Manage JINSA’s organizational operations, including overseeing personnel, IT, programming, fundraising and some elements of budgeting and finances.
  • Report to JINSA’s CEO and work closely with him.
  • Work with Members of the Board, some funders and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Deep experience in management in the private, non-profit or military sectors.
  • Well organized, thoughtful, comfortable taking initiative, and a team player.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, with strong interpersonal, leadership and presentation skills.
  • A background in fundraising or U.S. national security is a plus.

Vice President of Development

Description
The Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA) is seeking an experienced individual to direct its national development efforts.

Duties:

  • Responsible for outreach to, and stewardship of, a sophisticated target audience of donors and prospects through face-to-face solicitations, events and outreach to foundations.
  • Interact with existing/prospective donors, manage research of prospective donors, manage proposals to foundations, arrange meetings for CEO with existing/prospective donors, and work with Outreach Director on national events.
  • Report to the Vice President of Operations, when hired, and work closely with JINSA’s CEO.
  • Interact closely with all JINSA staff in our Washington, D.C. office.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of development experience with non-profit organizations.
  • Excellent track record with notable achievements, a general understanding of the U. S. military and the U.S. security relationship with Israel, and the ability to understand and communicate JINSA’s mandate with clarity and certainty.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced setting for a growing organization.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills.
  • Very organized, poised, pro-active, and detail-oriented.
  • Competency with Raiser’s Edge is preferred.
  • Background in proposal-writing.
